Nayagarh: Nayagarh district court on Tuesday convicted 7 accused in the murder of a panchayat samiti member and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
As per the case, while Kendudhipi samiti member Nakula Bantha was returning home on his bike, the accused persons attacked him near Kestapada cremation ground reportedly over political rivalry on February 13, 2016. The attackers had allegedly slashed Nakula’s body with sharp weapons and gouged his eyes leading to his death on the spot.
Following Nakula’s death, his family filed a complaint at Itamati police station. The police registered a case and launched an investigation. Later, the police arrested all 7 accused from their villages Khairapati and Kendudhipi and submitted the chargesheet in the court.
After hearing the witnesses and verifying the forensic evidence submitted by the police, the court convicted all the accused. Besides sentencing them to life imprisonment, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
