Balangir: A special Vigilance court has sentenced a former revenue inspector to rigorous imprisonment in a bribe case in Odisha’s Balangir district.
The Vigilance had arrested Satyanarayan Kumura, former revenue inspector of Mahalei revenue circle under Deogaon block of the district for accepting bribe from a complainant for submitting enquiry report in respect of genealogy report of the land of his relative.
After hearing the case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir convicted Kumura and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 4 years and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further RI for 3 months.
The Court also sentenced him to RI for 3 years and imposed fine of Rs 2,000 for the offence under Section 7 of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he will undergo further RI for 2 months and both sentences will run concurrently, the court ruled.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Kumura from service.
