Koraput: The Fast Track Court at Jeypore in Odisha’s Koraput district on Tuesday convicted an accused in the case of rape of a minor girl and sentenced him to 38 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI). The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 40,000 on the convict.

As per the case, the convict, identified as Sushant Kandapan of Sana Gadabalasa Colony under Bandhu Gaon police limits, tried to kidnap the girl while she was returning home from tuition in 2017. As she shouted for help, the locals rushed to the spot and Sushant managed to flee.
