Berhampur: A Vigilance court has sentenced a retired police inspector to rigorous imprisonment for 2 years in a disproportionate assets case in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The Vigilance had arrested Tapan Kumar Padhy, retired inspector of police, attached to DCRB, Ganjam, in the DA case and filed the chargesheet in the court.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur sentenced Padhy to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month more.
Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Padhy following his conviction.
In another Vigilance case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani has convicted Pandaba Mahala, gram rojgar sevak (disengaged from service) in Ghantapada panchayat under Kantamal block of Boudh district, in a bribe case.
The Vigilance had arrested Mahala while accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant for processing his file for early allotment of house under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana (PMAY-G).
The court sentenced Mahala to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under PC Amendment Act, 2018. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 3 months.
