Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 tally touched 222734 on Thursday amid the continued surge in infections with 3615 new cases from all 30 districts being added to it in the last 24 hours.
These cases were detected from the 49,645 samples (RT-PCR: 8,075, Antigen: 41,459, Truenat: 111) tested on Wednesday.
Among them, 2118 are quarantine and 1497 local contact cases.
Khurda again reporrted the highest 671 cases followed by Cuttack (371), Puri (197), Angul (188), Jajpur (144), Malkangiri (123), Mayurbhanj (123), Kendrapada (119), Keonjhar (109), Jharsuguda (106), Kalahandi (106), Balasore (96), Bargarh (86), Jagatsinghpur (83), Balangir (81), Sambalpur (73), Sundargarh (73), Sonepur (70), Nuapada (66), Nayagarh (64), Bhadrak (61), Dhenkanal (60), Kandhamal (59), Nabarangpur (57), Koraput (47), Ganjam (42), Rayagada (39), Gajapati (29), Boudh (20) and Deogarh (12).
Besides, 240 cases are from the state pool.
With 1,85,700 having recovered from the infection, the state now has 36,122 active cases.
After the biggest spike of 4356 on September 25, the daily cases count came down to 3932 on September 26. The state saw 3235 on September 27 and 3067 on September 28. However, the number spiralled to 3443 on September 29.
