Malkangiri: In wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Maoists have announced a unilateral ceasefire.
In an audio tape released to the media on Sunday, secretary of the Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakha Divisional Committee (MKVDC) Kailash said that there will be no attacks on security forces in view of the fast spread of the virus in the country.
The Maoist leader requested Odisha government employees to visit remote areas of Malkangiri district without fear to provide emergency service to the people. He also urged the government to increase the stipend, pension and PDS items for the people.
Besides, he advised the people to take utmost precautions like washing their hands repeatedly, not shake hands, wear masks, not to gather in groups and avoid attending marriages and other social functions by strictly adhering to social distancing measures.
He also asked the people to seek medical help in case of any symptoms like cough, cold and fever.
