Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 spread in Bhubaneswar assumed alarming proportions on Tuesday with the highest single-day spike of 581 cases in the last 24 hours.
What is more alarming is that 81 per cent of the new cases are local contacts (470) compared to 19 per cent quarantine cases (111).
With this, the total cases in the city have gone up to 36,728 and the active cases soared to 3249.
Among the places, Patia has a maximum of 38 cases followed by 35 in Old Town, 29 in Khangagiri, 26 in Tankapani, 24 in Nayapalli, 22 in Chandrasekharpur, 19 in Laxmisagar and 15 in Rasulgarh.
On the other hand, 204 patients have recovered taking the total recoveries to 33,208.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the COVID-19 cases in the Capital City in the last 19 days since April 1 have soared to 3866.
