COVID-19 Cases Continue To Spike In Rourkela Despite Lockdown

Rourkela: Sundargarh district reported 17 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which took the affected tally to 795 on Sunday.

Among these, 15 are from Rourkela, which is under complete lockdown till July 31. Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on July 16 told the media that Rourkela had reported 90 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases in Sundargarh district.

Of the new cases, one has a travel history; nine asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts, two Corona Warriors, and four symptomatic cases.

A 23-year-old man with travel history to Angul has tested positive for the virus, the district administration tweeted.

Of the nine asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts, seven are from ward no 22 under traffic gate in Rourkela and quarantined in Traffic gate containment zone while another from Sector 5 barrage at old water supply area and staying at BPUT Temporary Medical Centre (TMC) and the rest one is from Hi-Tech staff area and staying at HMCH room quarantine.

Of the two infected Corona Warriors, one is an RGH staff and another posted at district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Sundargarh. Both were in home quarantine.

Among the four symptomatic cases, three of them are from Sector-3 in Rourkela and in home quarantine and another one is from Hotel Delux lane in the sity and staying at RGH IPD.

The administration has not divulged details of one patient undergoing treatment at a COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Sunday also saw Sundargarh reporting second COVID-19 death.

With two deaths and 639 recoveries, the district now has 152 active cases.
