COVID-19 Cases In Odisha Jump By 79 Per Cent In 24 Hours; TPR Rises To 1.7%

Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID caseload in Odisha went past 1200 on Wednesday, up by 78.82 per cent from the previous day and the highest after a gap of almost five months.

The state saw 1216 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours and 187 among them are in the age group of 0-18 years. While 680 people were found infected on Tuesday, 424 cases were reported on Monday, 424 cases on Sunday, 298 cases on Saturday, 228 cases on Friday, and 225 cases on Thursday.

The last time, the state reported more than 1000 new infections in a day was on August 15.

According to the I & PR department, 710 of the new infections are from quarantine and 506 local contacts. Khurda reported the highest of 456 new cases followed by Sundargarh (166) and Cuttack (80). Two districts reported nil cases.

Besides, 110 from the state pool.

With these cases being detected from 68,878 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 1.76 per cent.

While the affected tally has touched 1057876, Odisha now has 3981 active cases.
