Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed the district officials to closely monitor the logistics plan to ensure sufficient and timely supply of oxygen and the critical medicines to the patients.

Speaking at a review meeting of COVID-19 management, here, the chief minister said, “We are in the midst of a severe crisis in the country. Many states and metro cities are witnessing a huge strain on the health care system. We need to be extremely cautious and alert in ensuring all measures to manage the situation in Odisha.”

He said though the state has been able to manage the COVID care requirement of the patients, the rising cases in some districts is a major cause of concern. The virus is now spreading in the form of double and triple mutant strains. In this wave. even young people are suffering from health complications, he added.

“We should always be prepared for the worst case scenario and that’s the principle by which we are able to handle natural disasters effectively. I would like each collector and SP to apply their minds taking the field situation into consideration and make fool proof planning,” Naveen said.

He further said the second wave may continue for a long time and all need to be prepared. “Unless we observe the COVID appropriate protocols like wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining social distancing, we cannot tide over this crisis. I would like all of you take care of VOVID warriors in the frontline,” he added.

Appealing to the people to wear masks and ensure social distancing, the chief minister said, “Our doctors and medical staff are working hard to save lives. It’s only when each one of us behaves responsibly that we can effectively fight this war against COVID-19.”

Chief secretary, DGP, district collectors and SPs and senior officials were present at the meeting.
