COVID-19 In Mink Farms Has ‘Most Likely’ Been Eradicated

London: A new mutated strain of novel coronavirus found in mink farms is “most likely” extinct, says Denmark.

“There have been no new cases of the ‘Cluster 5’ mink mutation since September 15, which has led to the Danish infectious disease authority SSI to conclude that this variant has most likely been eradicated,” the Danish Health Ministry said in a statement.

Around 15-17 million minks were culled to stop the spread of the strain.

Denmark is the largest exporter of minks, which are farmed for their fur. Pelts worth nearly $800 million are sold annually from here.
