COVID-19: India Logs 58,570 Fresh Cases, Witnesses Lowest Tally In 81 Days

New Delhi: The single-day COVID-19 count fell to an 81-day low with 58,570 testing positive for the infection on Saturday. This is the lowest tally since March 30.

The coronavirus casualty rate also declined steadily. The country recorded 1,154 deaths on Saturday (425 “backlog” deaths recorded by Maharashtra not included), the lowest single-day toll in more than two months since April 14, when 1,038 deaths were reported.

However, among the states, Kerala was the only state in the country to report over 10,000 cases for the third consecutive day. The state recorded 12,443 new infections, followed by Maharashtra (8,912), Tamil Nadu (8,183), Karnataka (5,815) and Andhra Pradesh (5,674).

The highest toll of 257 was recorded by Maharashtra on Saturday. Other states with high casualties included Karnataka (161), Kerala (115), West Bengal (55), UP (51), Andhra Pradesh (45), Odisha (42) and Assam (40).
