New Delhi: India registered a record single-day spike of 32,695 COVID-19 cases taking the country’s tally to 9,68,876 on Thursday.
The fatalities surged to 24,915 with 606 more succumbing to the infection across the country in the same period, the Union Health Ministry said.
On a positive note, the number of recovered cases (6,12,814) surpassed active cases by 2,81,668. Recovery of 20,782 cases in the last 24 hours pushed country’s recovery rate to 63.25 per cent.
Based on the current scenario, a worst-case scenario projection by an Indian Institute of Science (IISc) team reveals that India will have over 35 lakh COVID-19 cases by September.
The number of testing labs has increased to 1224 on Tuesday. The Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR) said 1,27,39,490 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far in the country, including 3,26,826 on Wednesday. In India, 22 States/UTs are conducting 140 and more tests/day per million as testing per million crossed 8994.
