COVID-19: India Records Highest 6148 Daily Deaths; Blame It On Bihar

New Delhi: India reported 6,148 fresh deaths due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the country’s cumulative toll to 359,676 on Thursday, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry.

Incidentally, this is the highest number of daily fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic in the country.

The number of 24-hour fatalities in the country reported on Tuesday was 2219 and on Wednesday, the figure was 2123.

The sharp rise in daily fatalities reported on Thursday could be attributed to the revised figures released by the Bihar government. On Wednesday, Bihar initially reported 20 new deaths. Later, it added a backlog of 3,951 fatalities to the tally.

On a positive note, the number of new cases in the country remained below the 1 lakh-mark for the third straight day on Thursday, as 94,052 people tested positive during the last 24 hours.

At present, India’s total COVID-19 tally has risen to 29,183,121.

Besides, 151,367 more people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 27,655,493.
