New Delhi: An overnight addition of 57,118 positive cases took India’s COVID-19 tally to 16,95,988 on Saturday. This is the highest single-day surge in coronavirus cases in the country so far.
Also, 764 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 36,511, the Union Health Ministry informed.
The cumulative recovered cases (10,94,374) have surpassed active cases by 5,29,271. Also, India’s recovery rate remains at 64.53 per cent. The fatality rate of cases dipped a bit to 2.15 per cent and is observed to be falling progressively, according to a Health Ministry release.
The number of COVID-19 sample testing labs has increased to 1,339 including 428 private labs. There are 684 RT-PCR based testing labs, including 268 private labs.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,93,58,659 COVID-19 samples have been tested so far, including 5,25,689 on Friday.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh on Friday surpassed Delhi to become the third-worst coronavirus-hit state in the country. The state has added over 30,000 cases to its tally in the last three days, taking its total of those infected to 1,40,933, including 1,349 fatalities.
