New Delhi: India has increased the production of Remdesivir by nearly three times. It is now producing to 1.05 crore vials per month, stated the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviaya on Tuesday.
From 37 lakh vials per month on April 12 to over 1 crore vials a month, the production of the antiviral drug has been rapidly increased as the government is working hard to enhance the availability of the injection in the country, Mandaviya said in a tweet.
In view of the increase in demand, the number of plants producing Remdesivir has also gone up from 20 on April 12 to 57 on May 4, he added.
Demand for Remdesivir has gone up manifold in the country amid a massive spike in Covid infections. The government has already waived customs duty on Remdesivir, its raw materials and other components used to make the antiviral drug to help augment domestic availability and reduce cost of the injection.
