Bhubaneswar: The number of COVID-19 cases in the Odisha capital crossed the 300-mark and touched 314 after 25 more people tested positive for the virus on Monday.
What set the alarm bell ringing was the detection of 23 local contact cases in a single day with seven from city slums.
The remaining two are a Kolkata returnee working at a private hospital and a Delhi returnee who is an employee of Railways. They were in home quarantine.
Among the locally infected cases, Mancheswar alone reported five new corona positive cases. Two of a family near Nuagaon petrol pump, four from Chakeisiani, two from Hadabai slum, four from Baltota Sahi Basti near passport office, one from Laxmibazaar Basti in Siripur, a woman from Ashok Nagar, one from a private hospital, one from Budha park locality in Niladri Vihar, another an employee of the government hospital and a service provider of an employee of a private hospital were also found to have contracted the virus.
All the infected have been shifted to COVID Hospital.

Following a rise in the cases in city slums, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation later in the day issued fresh guidelines to private hospitals to check further spread of the virus in these densely populated areas.

So far, four persons have succumbed to COVID-19 in the city, which now has 135 active cases.
