Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday said that it will take drastic action against people who are creating panic in the society by spreading fake news on social media on the novel coronavirus.
Briefing mediapersons here in the afternoon, chief spokesperson of the Odisha government on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi, said when the country and society are passing through a torrid time in the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus, some anti-social elements and irresponsible people are indulging in spreading rumours by posting fake news on social media.
“It has come to the notice that some people have posted a message on social media that about 15 staffers of a private educational institution in Bhubaneswar are afflicted with coronavirus, which is absolutely false. The act of these people is utterly condemnable and despicable. When the state government is trying its best to keep everybody safe, such malicious act of these persons should be viewed as an act of treason. The government will take exemplary action against them,” Bagchi pointed out.
