Bhubaneswar: As far as COVID-19 management is concerned, Odisha is ranked fourth among the states. The rankings were based on a recent study by State Bank of India’s research wing.
The study followed a two-stage mathematical model with monthly data from April to November. The tests first regressed on the population to get an estimated number of cases for each state.
North East region taken together topped the ranking list while Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh are lurking at the bottom, reported The New Indian Express.
The performances were divided into three broad categories — COVID management, macro parameters (fiscal parameters and CPI) and Central Government schemes. Researchers had used four indicators — gap between the actual number of cases and estimated cases, possible number of underreporting cases, recovery and death rates — to assess the COVID management of the states.
The COVID graph of Odisha improved significantly since it reached its peak on September 25, the day when the state reported 4356 cases. Since then, the daily cases have declined and fallen below 500. Now, daily recoveries are higher than the new cases.
According to the SBI study, Odisha had 3,18,725 actual cases as against the estimated cases of 4,03,844 up to November posting a difference of 85,119 cases. Odisha managed well as actual cases were less compared to estimated cases.
However, the difference between estimated cases and actual cases was 7,44,908 in Bihar, 7,43,296 in UP and 1,69,559 in North East.
