COVID-19 Norms Flouted During Demonstration In Odisha’s Paradip

Paradip: In yet another case of disregard for COVID-19 protocols, hundreds of members of a labour union gathered to stage a demonstration in front of IOCL, here on Friday.
According to sources, more than 500 members of the union participated in the protest without maintaining the social distancing. Besides, they flouted the curfew, imposed around the plant to carry out maintenance works, with the police taking no preventive action on the ground that they were not aware of the demonstration.
Jagatsinghpur SP Prakash R said the union had not informed the police regarding their agitation plan. Since the protestors violated COVID-19 guidelines and the curfew in place, a notice has been issued to the union concerned.
The labourers’ demand included announcement of Rs 50 lakh as compensation for the death of any worker due to COVID-19 by IOCL, quarantine facility for the workers and provision of face masks and sanitisers.
