Koraput: A family had to pay a penalty for hosting a marriage reception in violation of COVID-19 restrictions in the district.
While the second wave of Covid-19 is in full swing and the government has issued a number of guidelines for weddings and other gatherings, another case of violation was recorded in Koraput district on Wednesday.
According to police sources, Chandra Harijan of Chargan village under Borigumma police station had organised a community feast on the occasion of the marriage of his family members on Wednesday. Around 500 people turned up for the reception, violating maximum limit fixed by the state government.
On being informed, police conducted a raid on the venue. Though most of the invitees fled on their arrival, a penalty of Rs 8,000 was imposed on the family hosting the function, said IIC of Borigumma police station Sanjay Kumar Mandal.
According to the COVID-19 guidelines of the state government, not more than 50 people are allowed to participate in marriage and related functions.
