Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Khurda district, which has so far reported 47 corona positive cases, has moved from red zone to orange zone.  After a gap of 14 days, the district reported a lone case on April 28. As many as 27 patients have been fully cured of the disease.

According to the Centre’s fresh classification of corona-hit districts, Sundargarh (10), Kendrapada (2), Koraput (1), Dhenkanal (1) and Kalahandi (2) are the other districts in this zone after reporting fewer cases and more recoveries recently.

Bhadrak (19), which was bracketed among hotspot districts with clusters, continue to be in the red zone. Jajpur (36) and Balasore (20) are the new entrants to this zone. Most of the positive cases in this three districts are linked to West Bengal.

The remaining 21 districts that have not reported any case over 28 days have been designated as green zone.

“The districts were earlier designated as hotspots /red-zones, orange zones and green zones primarily based on the cumulative cases reported and the doubling rate. Since recovery rates have gone up, the districts are now being designated across various zones duly broad-basing the criteria. This classification is multi-factorial and takes into consideration incidence of cases, doubling rate, extent of testing and surveillance feedback to classify the districts,” Union Heath Secretary Preeti Sudan wrote to chief secretaries of all states and UTs.

A district will be considered under green zone, if there are no confirmed cases so far or there is no reported case since last 21 days in the district, she said

The letter further said that the list will be revised on a weekly basis or earlier and communicated to states for further follow-up action in consonance with the directions issued by Ministry of Home Affairs under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
