COVID-19 Outbreak: 40,000 Quarantined Because Of One ‘Super Spreader’ In India

New Delhi: As many as 40,000 people from 20 villages in Punjab were quarantined because of coming in contact with a man who recently died of COVID-19.

The deceased was a 70-year-old preacher and had visited a Sikh festival. He had ignored an advice to go for self-quarantine after returning from a trip to Italy and Germany, according to a BBC report.

This fact came out only after his death and resulted in a contact search of 40,000 people.

Authorities are worried that this could be India’s “Patient-31” who became a “super spreader” in South Korea.

As many as 550 people who came in direct contact with the preacher at 20 villages have been screened. The numbers are expected to increase, authorities told BBC.
