Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 pandemic in Odisha is at its peak, the Director of the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Ajay Parida, told the media on Monday.
Parida said that considering the dimension of the spread, it cannot be said at present whether it will rise or subside in the coming days.
He stated that about 65 per cent of people in Ganjam, Khurda and Cuttack districts have tested positive. The total caseload in Odisha will be less if the number of patients from these three districts goes down, he added.
Parida also informed that the number of COVID-19 tests in the state will be increased to 15,000 per day from August.
Stating that the antigen test in different areas of Ganjam district in mobile vans is underway, he said the state government will a similar decision for the remaining districts very soon.
On the rise in COVID-19 fatalities in the state, the ILS director explained that most of the deceased patients had comorbid conditions.
