Koraput: A woman, who had tested COVID-19 positive, delivered a baby girl through caesarian section at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital here on Tuesday.
According to official sources, the 27-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital for delivery. Due to some complicacies, the doctors decided to go for C-section for the delivery.
Since she had tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital authorities took all necessary precautions to ensure that neither the medical team nor the infant gets infected with the coronavirus.
A team of doctors led by Dr. Arpika Aparajita Behera performed the caesarean on the woman, the sources said. Both the mother and the newborn are reportedly stable.
Later, a sample of the baby was taken for COVID-19 test.
In another case, a COVID-19 positive woman had given birth to a baby boy at KIMS COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar on June 1.
The district reported 558 COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday with an overnight addition of 73 fresh cases. While 168 patients have recovered from the disease, the active cases stand at 390.
