COVID-19 Restrictions To Be Relaxed In Odisha’s Berhampur From Monday

Berhampur: The restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19 would be further relaxed in the city from Monday.

In a release, Ganjam collector Vijay Amrit Kulange and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) commissioner Chakravorty Singh Rathore said the restrictions would be relaxed in Berhampur, which is the commercial hub of the entire south Odisha.

“We have taken the decision as the COVID-19 situation has improved considerably in Berhampur,” said the collector. But the restrictions will continue to remain in force in the rest of the district.

About 10,000 shops in the city, which were allowed to open for 11 hours from 5 am to 4 pm, would now do business from 5 am to 8 pm. The entry and exit points to Berhampur, which were sealed earlier, would be withdrawn from Monday. But entry points of the district would remain sealed as before, the collector said.

However, the weekend shutdown on Saturday and Sunday would continue in the entire district including Berhampur, official sources said.

BeMC commissioner said the people from outside having assignment can enter Berhampur wearing masks. The shopkeepers and the customers must maintain social distance. The squads of BeMC and the Berhampur sub-collector office would intensify the raids in the city to enforce the COVID-19 regulations like wearing the face masks and maintaining the social distance, he added.
