Bhubaneswar: The Serum Institute of India (SII) on Wednesday announced the prices of its COVID-19 vaccine for state governments as well as private hospitals.
Welcoming the recent announcement of the Central government to accelerate the country’s vaccination drive, the SII said it will scale up the vaccine production in next two months. While 50% of its production will cater to the Centre’s vaccination programme, the rest 50% will serve the state governments and private hospitals, it added in a release.
Considering the high prices of the vaccines by international companies, the country’s pharma major said it has decided to supply the vaccines at a much lower rate. The price of each dose of the vaccine for the state governments has been fixed at Rs 400 and that for private hospitals at Rs 600.
Compared to SII’s price, American vaccines in private market cost Rs 1500 per dose and Russian and Chinese vaccines Rs 750.
Besides, the Centre’s directive will now allow the state governments, private hospitals and vaccination centres to procure the vaccines directly.
