New Delhi: The Centre on Monday said that the coronavirus situation is “especially serious” in Mumbai, Indore, Pune, Jaipur, Kolkata and a few other places in West Bengal.
In a communication to state governments, the Union Home Ministry said violations of lockdown norms will lead to spreading of the virus.
The ministry also asked the states to strictly impose lockdown measures and act against movement of vehicles, flouting of social distancing norms and violence on frontline workers.
Besides Kolkata, the ministry also named six districts in West Bengal — Howrah, East Medinipur, North 24 Parganas, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri — as hotspots.
The Centre has identified the hotspots based on levels of severity.
The total number of positive cases in India has reached 17,265 and 543 people have died so far. 2,301 people have recovered.
