Mumbai: Like during the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maharashtra is witnessing a massive surge driven by the Omicron variant.
Mumbai alone reported 5,631 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 2000 more than the previous day.
And now, 10 ministers and over 20 MLAs have tested positive for the deadly virus in Maharashtra.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said on Saturday more restrictions can’t be ruled out in the state.
“The government is keeping a close watch on the situation… If the number of cases continues to rise then there will be strict restrictions. To avoid strict restriction everybody should follow norms,” he said on Saturday.
The Maharashtra government issued fresh guidelines on Thursday night, extending Section 144 prohibitory orders in Mumbai and capping attendance at gatherings in open or closed spaces at 50.
In Pune, one of the hotspots during the second wave, the COVID positivity rate went up to a scary 5.9% on Friday.
