Bhubaneswar: In view of the COVID-19 cases detected in some educational institutions in the state capital, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to vaccinate the teachers above the age of 45 years of all government and private schools at the earliest.

Briefing mediapersons here on Tuesday, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said a decision has been taken to vaccinate the people of five categories.

“Priority is given to vaccinate people of 45 years and above, including the teachers of all government and private schools, street vendors and staff of shopping malls, restaurants and the Energy Department. For this, we have already prepared a list of 20,000 people who will be vaccinated within two months,” he added.

Referring to detection of fresh COVID-19 cases in the city, Chaudhary said three residents of Balaji Apartment in Jharpada and three of a private school had tested positive on the last 24 hours.

Stating that the contact tracing of the infected persons is underway, he said the BMC has decided to set up a contact tracing desk soon.

On the steps taken to contain the spread of the virus in the city, Chaudhary said 2-3 places, where the infection has spread, have been sealed as a preventive measure.
