Dhenkanal: At a time when the destitutes and physically challenged persons in distress find it tough to meet both ends due to COVID-19 related restrictions, a young woman has come to their rescue in the town.
Moved by the plight of the helpless people in the streets, Soumyashree Mishra of Kanchan Bazaar has been helping them in her own capacity in providing food. She makes it a point to send food packets to the homeless people in different parts of the town twice a day.
Soumyashree, who was doing the service to these people from her pocket, has now got support from her husband and in-laws after her marriage recently. “I used to spend my pocket money to feed the people. Now my friends and some people of the town are helping in my work,” TNIE quoted her saying.
Soumyashree has been helping the helpless people since March last year when COVID-19 pandemic surfaced in the state. After her selfless efforts came to light, some philanthropists have come forward to contribute in kind to 25-year-old Soumyashree who does not take help from any NGO or government sources.
She said the destitutes and physically challenged people are worst affected at this time as few people are aware of their condition. Besides, people avoid them in present situation, she said adding that the local administration should take some urgent steps to help them.
