Bhubaneswar: A vegetable trader at the wholesale potato market in Aiginia locality in Bhubaneswar has infected as many as 41 persons, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary informed.
The patient also runs a shop at the Unit-1 market. He was tested positive for COVID-19 during a testing camp conducted by BMC officials. During contact tracing, it has been found 41 persons were infected by him.
If everyone would maintain social distancing, washed their hands regularly and wore masks, they would not have been diagnosed with the virus at a large number, BMC commissioner Chaudhary said.
A meeting was also held on Saturday with Market Associations. They were advised to strictly follow the COVID-19 measures — Social Distancing, Wearing Masks and Hand Hygiene at all times.
“They were aware not to give items to customers who are not following guidelines for the safety of all. Regular raids & heavy penalty will be imposed on shops if any violations. If all follow safety measures then chances in spreading the virus are less,” BMC tweeted.
“Citizens are requested to co-ordinate & avoid crowding, shop in a lean period. It’s for the safety of all to WearMask, maintain SocialDistancing, HandHygiene. We all must avoid shopping every day, get all our essentials weekly once or twice & opt for online shopping more,” BMC commissioner Chaudhary said.
