COVID-19 Surge: Crematoriums Run Out Of Space; Garbage Van Ferries Bodies

Raipur: In a sad state of affairs, a garbage van was used to ferry dead bodies of COVID-19 victims in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon.

In the visuals, shown by NDTV, four sanitation workers clad in PPE kits are seen lifting and dumping bodies to be taken to a cremation ground.

Chhattisgarh is currently among the 10 most affected states in the second of COVID-19 wave.

Videos are circulating which show the struggle to keep up beds in ICUs in Raipur hospitals. Bodies are reportedly being kept in freezers or anywhere there is space.

Chhattisgarh on Wednesday saw 14,250 new cases and 120 more deaths.

The situation is equally grim in Gujarat. In Surat, 80 to 100 bodies are being taken to a crematorium every day, from the usual 15-20.
