Sambalpur: The COVID-19 tally in Sambalpur district inched closer to the 1000 mark with the caseload rising to 987 on Saturday. This included 112 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Of the 112 new cases, the maximum of 90 cases was reported from Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) area. The remaining 22 cases were reported from Rairakhol NAC, Kuchinda NAC and the four blocks of Kuchinda, Bamra, Jamankira and Maneswar.
The district administration informed that 60 new cases are local contacts and one is a COVID warrior at VIMSAR, Burla.
Notably, Sambalpur district has reported 61 per cent rise in COVID-19 positive cases (603) in the last eight days since August 1.
With 2 deaths and 426 recoveries, the district has 559 active cases at present.
