New Delhi: Delhi reported more than 17,000 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and is now the worst-affected city in the country, leaving behind the financial capital Mumbai in the daily cases.
The single-day peak in Mumbai so far is 11,163, registered on April 4, as per official figures.
Bengaluru reported 8,155 cases, Chennai 2,564, their highest daily surge on Wednesday. Pune’s highest single-day spike since the pandemic began was 12,494 cases, which was recorded on April 4.
Delhi reported 17,282 new COVID-19 cases 19 on Wednesday, the highest single-day spike in Delhi since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. More than 100 fatalities were reported, as per data from the health department.
Thus, Delhi has surpassed Mumbai in the daily cases by a huge margin.
“It is an absolute rampage in the city, young and old, vaccinated or not vaccinated, the virus is just hitting everyone. Delhi’s situation is grim,” senior consultant at the Apollo Hospitals in Delhi, Suranjit Chatterjee was quoted as saying by NDTV.
