New Delhi: India registered its highest single-day spike of 28,498 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload past the 9 lakh mark at 9,06,752 on Tuesday.
The fatalities surged to 23,727 with 553 more succumbing to the infection across the country in the same period, the Union Health Ministry said.
On a positive note, the number of recovered cases (5,71,460) surpassed active cases by 2,59,895.
However, both confirmed and active cases are growing daily at 3.3 per cent (doubling nearly in 21 days) and fatality rate is at 2.3 per cent.
The Indian Council Of Medical Research (ICMR) said 1,20,92,503 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far in the country, including 2,86,247 on Monday.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday warned the pandemic would get “worse and worse and worse” if the basics weren’t followed.
