Bhubaneswar: The first consignment of the COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in Odisha from Pune on Tuesday afternoon.
Informing the media, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Praditpa Mohapatra said that the vaccines supplied by the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune will arrive at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in a special SpiceJet cargo flight at 4.20 pm.
“The vaccines will be kept at the State Vaccination Store from where they will be sent to the Regional Vaccination Centres. As the Centre has decided to launch the countrywide vaccination from January 16, the vaccines will be sent to the District Vaccination Centres. From there, they will be sent to the district cold chains and finally to the sessions sites where the health workers will be vaccinated in the first phase under the supervision of the members of the State Monitoring Committee,” Mohapatra said.
While the exact number of vaccines sent by the SII has not been confirmed by the Health Department, reliable sources said that about 40,800 vials of vaccines having 4.08 lakh doses would arrive here.
