COVID-19 Warning: WHO Emergencies Director Says This Virus May Never Go Away

Geneva:  Even as clinical and human trials of a vaccine for coronavirus are under way in different countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a grim warning for mankind.

The deadly virus, which has left close to 300,000 people dead across the world, “may never go away.”

According to WHO emergencies director Dr Mike Ryan, we should not try to predict when the coronavirus would disappear. And even if a vaccine is found, controlling Covid-19 will require a “massive effort,” he added.

“It is important to put this on the table — this virus may become just another endemic virus in our communities, and this virus may never go away,” Dr Ryan said during a virtual press conference from Geneva. “HIV has not gone away, but we have come to terms with the virus,” he added.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tried to put up a brave front amid the gloom caused the by the global pandemic. “The trajectory is in our hands, and it’s everybody’s business, and we should all contribute to stop this pandemic,” he said.
