COVID-19: With 7K New Cases, India Now 9th Worst-Hit Country

New Delhi: India has become the ninth worst-affected country by the COVID-19 pandemic after registering 7,000 fresh infections, the highest single-day spike till now.

The other eight countries are United States of America, Brazil, Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France and Germany.

Following this, the total tally of coronavirus cases in India reached 1,65,799, as per the data available on the Health Ministry’s website till 8 am on Friday.

The country also recorded its third highest single-day corona deaths on Thursday. With 175 new deaths, the total has climbed to 4,706-mark.

Maharashtra, the worst-affected state from COVID-19, witnessed 2,500 new cases, taking the infected tally to 59,546.

In Tamil Nadu, the total number of cases stand at 19,372 followed by Delhi (16,281) and Gujarat (15,562), the ministry reported.

On the positive side, 71,105 people have been cured of the deadly virus so far with a recovery rate of over 42 per cent, it added.
