New Delhi: A new Omicron subvariant, BA 2.75, has been detected in the national Capital.
Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital said that majority of samples collected from COVID-positive patients were sent for genome sequencing, which were analysed this week, PTI reported quoting a senior official of the hospital.
The study, involving 90 patients, found that BA 2.75 is more transmissible than Omicron’s previous subvariants.
The official informed that over half of the samples have been detected with BA 2.75.
Doctors, however, asserted that severity of infection in BA 2.75 cases is less and patients are recovering within 5-7 days.
It’s a significant development as Delhi reported 2,146 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths on Thursday, highest in the country.
