Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw almost 35 per cent spike in daily COVID caseload with 92 cases being detected in the state in the last 24 hours as India reported 4,435 fresh infections, the biggest single-day jump in 163 days, according to Health Ministry’s data on on Thursday morning.
The active tally in Odisha has climbed to 359, the highest since October 29, with 25 more patients having been cured.
Amid a sudden uptick in COVID cases in the last couple of days, the government has asked the districts, where the infection is rising, to intensify contact tracing and testing to curb further spread of the disease. The state had reported 68 on Wednesday, a day after the caseload doubled and active tally crossed 200-mark with 53 new infections.

On Wednesday, Public Health director Niranjan Mishra said that districts like Cuttack, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Khurda and Sambalpur have maximum COVID cases and the number of infections may go up further in the coming days.
Odisha has a test positivity rate of 1.4 per cent compared to the national average of 3.3 per cent, he added.
While the state is yet to make mask mandatory, people have been advised to us masks in crowded places and practice hand hygiene as part of precautionary measures.
