Dhenkanal: The detection of a COVID cluster in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Thursday has spread panic with Omicron variant raising its ugly head in India with two cases being reported in Karnataka.
The number of infected students at Saikripa Plus-II Science College at Kunjakanta here rose to 49 with 16 of 50 more samples testing positive for COVID. Earlier, 33 students of the residential college had contracted the virus.
While Kunjakanta area was declared as a containment zone for 10 days from Thursday, the college authorities have been served show-cause notice for allowing students to vacate the hostel instead of isolating them.
The Municipal authorities have also filed a police complaint against the residential college owner and principal for the same.
Besides, the respective local authorities have been asked to keep the infected students under isolation.
