New Delhi: The country registered the highest single-day spike of 22,771 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of cases to 648,315 on Saturday.
Besides, as many as 442 more patients succumbed to the infection in the same period, taking the total toll to 18,655, the Union Health Ministry said.
On a positive note, 394,226 people have recovered from the infection till now. Also, the recovery rate in the country has increased to 60.73 per cent.
Meanwhile, the number of tests for COVID-19 in the country has inched closer to the one crore-mark. According to the Indian Council Of Medical Research, 9,540,132 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 242,383 on Friday.
