Ottawa: Canada has been hit by the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and it is being driven by the Delta variant.
“The latest national surveillance data indicate that a fourth wave is underway in Canada and that cases are plotting along a strong resurgence trajectory,” Chief public health officer of Canada Dr Theresa Tam told reporters on Thursday.
She said that the country’s national case count has taken a turn for the worse since late July, the Xinhua news agency reported.
More than 1,500 new cases are being reported daily and a majority of those infected are in the age group of 20-39 years, she said, adding that the country has 13,000 active cases, which is more than double from two weeks ago.
