COVID Hero: Doctor Continues To Answer Call Of Duty Despite Personal Tragedy

We cannot thank out medical fraternity enough.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic resurfacing in a much more virulent and deadly form in the second wave, our doctors, nurses and other medical staff have continued to serve the coronavirus patients with unselfish and unflinching resolve.

Here’s the story of one such braveheart doctor, who brushed off personal tragedy to answer the call of duty in these critical times.

Dr Mukund Penurkar of Pune’s Sanjeevan Hospital, lost his father to the deadly virus, while his mother and brother also got infected at the same time and are still recovering.

But he couldn’t afford to sit at home and mourn. After a day’s break, he was back to the COVID ward.

“My father passed away on Monday (April 26), but I had to rejoin on Wednesday… The overall situation is very bad and patients need us. We need as many doctors as possible at the hospital,” Dr Penurkar told ANI.

His father was cremated on Monday itself. “Some of the other rituals are difficult to follow during these times. So we have decided to do it in a proper way once the situation normalises,” Dr Penurkar says in the YouTube video.
