Sambalpur: The district administration on Monday shut the COVID hospital operating in Sambalpur town after the last patient was discharged the previous day.
The hospital, except for the 20-bedded ICU, has been closed with immediate effect.
Sources said the Sambalpur Sadar Hospital will become operational from the premises from November 20.
The COVID hospital became functional on April 22 and arrangements were made at the community health centre, Hirakud, urban primary health centre, Ainthapali, and Dr JP Maternity Hospital at Baidyanath Chhak to treat regular patients.
A decision to close this hospital was taken after a COVID-19 facility with 100 general beds and 20 ICU beds became functional on the premises of VIMSAR on October 12, sources said.
Sambalpur now has 308 active cases with 8136 patients having recovered from the infection. The virus has so far claimed 55 lives in the district.
