COVID In Villages: Teenager Converts Tree Into His Isolation Ward

You would have heard of the phrase ‘horses for courses’, and several examples demonstrating its usage.

But this one takes the cake.

An 18-year-old village boy, having tested COVID-19 positive, was advised to isolate. It wasn’t possible to do so in his one-room house, so he found a tree close to his place and made it a COVID isolation ward, timesnownews.com reported.

Shiva, who hails from a tribal village in Nalgonda district of Telangana, contracted the virus earlier this month. Not wanting to put the family of four at risk of getting infection, Shiva decided to make the tree his temporary home for the stipulated period of time.

He made a bed out of bamboo and fastened it around the branches.

“There was no isolation centre here. Two days ago, they converted the Scheduled Tribes hostel into a centre. Up until then, we had nothing and I don’t know if there are any such centres in other villages. What else can I do?” he told The Print.

Indeed so.

The nearest primary health care centre from his village is 5 km away, while the nearest hospital is 30 km away.

With COVID-19 spreading in rural areas, villagers in similar situations may be forced to think of such makeshift arrangements to save themselves from this dreadful virus.
