Rayagada: A railway employee, who had tested positive for COVID-19, allegedly hanged himself in his quarters in the Railway Colony in Rayagada town on Sunday.
According to sources, the deceased had gone to his native village in the neighbouring state to celebrate Holi in March. A week after his return, he developed flu symptoms. He underwent tested and was detected with Malaria. Despite three-day medication, the flu symptoms persisted.
Suspecting that he might have contracted COVID-19, he underwent a rapid antigen test at the district headquarters hospital and the result was found to be positive on Saturday.
On the advice of the doctor, he was under home isolation. However, the residents of the colony found him hanging from the ceiling the next morning.
Following the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials informed the family members of the deceased.
Talking to the media, the Railway officials said that the body of the deceased will be examined after the arrival of the family members on Monday.
