Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday sealed all shops and business establishments at the Market Building in Unit-II of the city for 48 hours.
The entire market building was sealed in presence of the city DCP Umashankar Das and BMC zonal commissioner.
Talking to mediapersons, BMC additional commissioner Laxmikant Sethi said the enforcement team during the visit to Market Building found gross violation of the COVID norms by the customers and the shop owners.
“After witnessing the situation, we felt that the people have forgotten that they are in the grip of COVID pandemic. We found gross violation of social guidelines as most of the people and the shop owners were were not wearing the masks. Considering the grim situation in the capital city, how can we fight against the virus if the people violate the COVID appropriate behaviour?” Sethi said.

He further said the Market Building will reopen on Monday after the weekend shutdown.
Asked whether the BMC has any plan to take similar measures in other markets, Sethi said if such instances are found, these markets will be sealed.
