Sambalpur: The surge of COVID-19 on campuses in Odisha continued with Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Sambalpur district reporting its first positive case.
According to reports, a student residing in the ladies hostel tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Sources on campus said the girl had returned to her hostel on Tuesday evening. Late in the night, she felt uneasy and informed the warden. The hostel matron and two roommates of the girl took her to the district headquarters hospital for a check-up. Later, she tested positive for the virus.
Following this, the university authorities ramped up measures to check the spread of the virus.
GMU Deputy Registrar, Uma Charan Pati said the infected student has been sent to her home where she is under isolation. The matron and two girl students who had accompanied her to the hospital have also been kept under isolation in the hostel.
“We have sanitised the hostel premises and rooms. Isolation rooms have been slotted in the hostels and all precautionary measures are being taken,” Pati was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
